Most of us are probably not getting on a plane anytime soon, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have an awesome staycation in downtown Vancouver. There are so many things to do in Vancouver and this is the perfect time to be exploring our own backyard.
The Waterfront and Gastown neighbourhoods have so many great ways to fill up your day while maintaining your physical distance and keeping everyone safe. We’ve put together a list of places you can visit within walking distance from our Waterfront Bombay Brow location.
Why you need a Vancouver Staycation
Vancouver has no end of amazing places to visit, and we often forget how much we have because we spend so much time looking to escape. But, you can escape within the city limits too.
Today we’re going to share a few activities you can do on foot during a staycation in the Waterfront and Gastown area of Vancouver.
And you're welcome to use our Ultimate Downtown Vancouver Staycation Google Map for an walkable guide around the downtown core
Morning Coffee - Revolver Coffee
Start your day off the only way a day should...with a warm cuppa joe! Locals know Revolver coffee serves up a great cup of freshly brewed coffee (brewed after you order so it’s fresh). They bring in the best coffees from roasters around the world on their rotating menu. Their motto says it all: “We order what we like, and we don't order what we don't.”
They are currently open alley-side for coffee orders during the pandemic.
Instagram-worthy: Walk the Canadian Trail
If you want to snap some Instagram-worthy selfies for your social media feed, take a walk around the outside of Canada Place. They call it the Canadian Trail and it’s a 1km “walk across Canada” where you can view plaques of some of the great cities that make up our great country. There are plenty of photo spots to snap along the “loop trail” around Canada Place.
Be sure to also venture down the street to the Vancouver Convention Center and walk around their building for more uniquely Vancouver photo ops like the giant water droplet statue!
Lunch Plans - Steamworks Brew Pub
Steamworks has long been a popular place to grab a brew and a meal or a light snack. A cold, local brew, and a burger or the Brewhouse Charcuterie platter will give you the energy boost you need to continue with your day. And with their 12-page COVID-19 safety plan, they’ve made it a safe place to gather during the pandemic.
Need Shoes: Fluevog Gastown
If you weren’t lucky enough to purchase the limited edition Dr. Bonnie Henry Fluevog shoes, you can still visit their flagship Fluevog Gastown store to purchase another one of this local designer’s fabulous shoes.
This 50-year-old Fluevog shoe brand has taken the world by storm after its humble beginnings in our great city. Their Gastown location is not only a shoe shop for these bespoke shoes but it’s also the company headquarters and John Fluevog’s Design Studio.
During the pandemic, the Fluevog Gastown location is open by appointment only. Email or call them to book your time to shop.
Be a Tourist - Fly Over Canada
It’s funny how many locals we talk to who HAVEN’T been to FlyOver Canada at Canada Place yet. If you’re one of them, you can still experience this immersive ride experience for yourself during your Vancouver staycation. They have COVID-19 protocols in place to keep everyone safe. Be sure to reserve your ticket in advance.
Pampering - Bombay Brow (Waterfront):
If you’ve been on your feet all day, relax and put your feet up while we do your brows for you at Bombay Brow Bar’s Waterfront location, Vancouver's most popular brow bar and spa.
Located in the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel, you’ll feel the love the second you walk through the doors. Be sure to add a brow and forehead massage or a marma massage to your booking for an extra level of relaxation after your brow treatments.
As a bonus, book your brows at our Waterfront location to get 15% off. Use coupon code WATERFRONT15 when booking.
Dinner With a View: Tap & Barrel
Tap & Barrel locations, including Vancouver Convention Center location, have re-opened under new health and safety protocols. Ask for a seat on the patio or next to the window to get breathtaking views of the North Shore mountains or Stanley Park while you enjoy your meal. Or order a dish for takeout and take to nearby Harbour Green Park for a picnic.
Vancouverites love the outdoors and if you are an outdoors-lover, end your day with a sunset stroll along the Waterfront Seawall towards Stanley Park. As you walk, reflect on your Vancouver staycation and think of all the things and people you’re grateful for in your life.
